What is single jersey knitting machine
There is a single ‘cylinder’ of needles in single jersey machines .They can produce plain fabrics.
Plain is the simplest type of structure practiced since the inception of knitting technology. It can be done in hand knitting as well as machine knitting (flat and circular). We can use plain in a variety of different garments that require stretch, such as blouses, t-shirts, tops and casual dresses.
What is double jersey knitting machine
Two sets of needles are there in the double jersey machine. This extra set of needles allows the production of fabrics that are twice as thick as single jersey fabrics. Rib, interlock are the two fabrics that knitted by double jersey knitting machine.
Rib double jersey machine
In this machine the two sets of needles one on cylinder and one on dial are placed at right angles with each other. The cylinder being in vertical position and the dial in horizontal position. Allow the two set of needles to be at right angles, which in turn results in vertical movement of needles on cylinder and horizontal movement of needle on dial. These two different movements makes the rib pattern which can be recognized by checking the face and back loops as they run along to the coarse successively . But all the loops of a wale is same.
Rib knit fabrics are reversible with distinct vertical ribs on both sides, produced by alternating knit and purl stitches. We are often use them for cuffs, neckbands and waistbands, more generally, any edge that should be form-fitting. The raw materials of Rib Knit Fabrics are Cotton, cotton blends, wool or Acrylic.
Interlock double jersey machine
This type of double jersey machines, the needles on the cylinder and the dial are placed opposite and alternatively. Interlock machine uses two types of latch needles instead only one type .
Interlock fabric belongs to rib knit construction. Similar to a jersey knit except both front and back of the fabric look identical. Double knit construction makes this a thicker knit fabric.Usually, we use Interlock Knit Fabrics for the production of t-shirts, polos and dresses.
The difference between the two machines
The arrangement of the needle rules
Single jersey circular knitting machines only have vertical needles. But double jersey circular knitting machines have horizontal and vertical needles.
The method of knitting
The two machines also knit differently. Single jersey knitting machine has only one direction in knitting, double jersey knitting machine has two directions in knitting. Moreover, the two directions are perpendicular.
Whether a sinker is required
The single jersey knitting machine needs sinkers to produce fabric. Sinker is an important element in loop formation in single jersey knitting. But the sinkers are irrelevant for double jersey knitting.
Thickness
The fabric knitted by single jersey circular knitting machine is thinner than the double-side machine.
Production
The fabric production of single jersey knitting machine is higher than the other one.
DW0910 and DW0910S series knitting machine belong to single jersey knitting machine. For more information about the machines ,please send email to [email protected].
