Martindale Tester, also named Textile Martindale Abrasion Tester, it is used to assess abrasion resistance of woven fabrics.
Martindale Abrasion tester was designed to give a controlled amount of multi-directional abrasion, between the fabric surface and a crossbred wool abrading fabric, at comparatively low pressure until thread breakdown, . It is not applicable to fabrics having a long pile or surface coating.

This instrument has two kinds of Lissa-jous movement track, 60×60mm(eccentric wheel 30mm)and 24×24mm(eccentric wheel 12mm), which are used for determining properties of abrasion resistance and pilling separately.

APPLICATION
Application of Martindale Abrasion and Pilling Tester
Martindale Abrasion and Pilling Tester is applied to determine the pilling and abrasion resistance properties of most of textile (including woven fabric, knitting, nonwoven fabric, ramie, silk etc.) with bearing slight press. The relative movement track of specimen and abrasion is Lissa-jous figure. Circular fabric sample under certain pressure with standard abrasive according to Li Sha as (Lissajous) and track curve of friction .This will cause the sample damaged. The wear resistance of the sample is think as the abrasion resistance of the fabric .
